Today, Premier Scott Moe joined Moose Jaw Mayor Fraser Tolmie for a sod turning ceremony to celebrate the beginning of construction on a new pumphouse for the City’s High Service Reservoir – funded in part from the city’s overall $4.8 million it’s receiving under the provincial Municipal Economic Enhancement Program (MEEP).

“The $150 million Municipal Economic Enhancement Program is a key component of our government’s economic support to stimulate the economy due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Moe said.  “These provincial dollars will kick start ‘shovel-ready’ projects and initiatives.  The funding will also strengthen communities by improving their infrastructure and capital assets needed to provide services to residents, as well as creating local job opportunities.  Together, we can keep Saskatchewan as strong as the resilient people who call this great province home.”

“The High Service Reservoir Pumphouse stores two-thirds of the City’s potable water, and the new pumphouse is critical to the continued safe delivery of drinking water to over 20,000 Moose Javians,” Tolmie said.  “We thank the provincial government for recognizing the importance of this project and their contribution, added to the $10-million committed by our City Council, will ensure its completion.”

Under MEEP, the City of Moose Jaw will receive $4.8 million for projects such as:

• High Service Reservoir Pumphouse, $3,936,996, which will see full construction begin later this fall following.  The project is expected to be completed and fully operational by summer of 2022.
• Wastewater Treatment Plant Blower Project, $879,960, which is expected to be completed by the spring of 2022.
• Covid-19 Protective Measures, $54,000, which allowed the city to purchase and install safety barriers in city facilities and expand the electronic card access system at City Hall.

The $150 million MEEP was announced in May.  It is a key component of the Government of Saskatchewan’s $7.5 billion, two-year capital plan to build a strong province and stimulate its economic recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Program funding must be used by municipalities by March 31, 2022.
