Agnes Holinaty (nee Autet)

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Agnes Holinaty (nee Autet) of Domremy, Saskatchewan, passed away the morning of May 14, 2020, at the age of 90 years.

Agnes was born to George and Mary Autet (nee Mochoruk) on April 8, 1930 outside of Domremy, SK. She lived and worked on the family homestead with her four siblings (Maurice, Gladys, Alice, Joyce) until marrying.

She married George Holinaty on August 10, 1950 and moved across the field to his family homestead. Together, they raised 5 children: Karen Dodd, Gordon Holinaty (Barbara Large), Susan LaRoche, Cathy (Bob) Skatfeld, and Audrey McMillan.

She was predeceased by husband George, parents George and Mary Autet, sister Gladys Laveniuk, and brother Maurice.
Agnes is survived by her children: Karen, Gordon, Susan, Cathy, and Audrey; her grandchildren: Catherine, Tammy, Jason, Carla, Laura, Stephen, Jaime, Candace, Nathan, Amanda, and Dale; 17 great grandchildren, her sisters Joyce Robertson and Alice Lastowski and numerous nieces and nephews.

Agnes was a strong, resourceful, resilient, and fearless woman who told everyone to just call her “Grandma”. She was passionate about gardening and had a gift for it. She could make just about any plant grow in just about any soil. This passion was second only to that of the love she had for her family. Grandma and the farm were always there for them to come home to. The door was always open and there was always room for everyone. Most holidays saw the beds filled and floors littered with blankets, pillows and grandkids and nobody would have had it any other way. It was here she taught them about the world, self-reliance and so many more life lessons that didn’t seem important at the time, but shaped them into who they are today.

She was the farm and the farm was her. You simply couldn’t separate the two. They will see her forever in every hill and every plant and feel her love in the prairie breeze as it blows over the land she so lovingly tended for 90 years.

She will remain in our hearts forever.

The family would like to thank the physicians and staff at Rosthern Hospital. Due to the current pandemic situation, no funeral arrangements will be made at this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Arrangements have been entrusted to Marc Blondeau of Kushneryk Funeral Service, Wakaw, SK, 306-233-4403.
