Moose Jaw RCMP: male arrested in Mortlach

Around 4:00 p.m. on February 22, 2020 a Saskatchewan Highway Patrol officer requested RCMP assistance with a vehicle stop on Highway #1 west of Caronport. The officer had stopped a blue Dodge Ram for a vehicle equipment violation (no mud flaps and a tinted license plate cover).

The adult male driver and lone occupant of the truck produced a driver’s license that didn’t appear authentic and the Alberta license plate did not match the vehicle registration.

While the initial investigation was being conducted, the driver drove away. Police followed the truck and the man exited the truck and entered a residence on Coteau Avenue in Mortlach. He was eventually arrested by RCMP without incident.

Further investigation has determined the truck was stolen from Edmonton, Alberta. A search of the residence in Mortlach yielded multiple stolen identifications including driver’s licenses, SIN cards and vehicle registrations (primarily Alberta residents) as well as electronics.

Trevor Stross (1981-12-04) from Edmonton, Alberta is charged with:

  • 2 counts, obstruction, Sec 129 CC
  • 1 count, flight from a peace officer, Sec 320.17 CC
  • 6 counts, failure to comply with the conditions, Sec 145(5)(a) CC
  • 1 count, contravention of storage regulations (firearm), Sec 86(2) CC
  • 1 count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Sec 88(2) CC
  • 1 count, possession of a prohibited weapon, Sec 92(3)(a) CC
  • 1 count, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, Sec 95(2) CC
  • 2 counts, possession of a prohibited firearm, Sec 117.01(3) CC
  • 2 counts, possession of property obtained by crime, Sec 354(1)(a) CC
  • 1 count, possession of methamphetamine, Sec 4(1) CDSA
  • 1 count, alter a vehicle identification number, Sec 353.1 CC

He appeared in Moose Jaw Provincial Court at 10 a.m. on February 27, 2020. The next court date is March 4, 2020 at 9:30 a.m.

Officers are currently working to identify and notify possible victims. Police are encouraging anyone who has had their identification stolen to report it to their nearest police service or RCMP Detachment.
