Saskatchewan Recognizes National Housing Day

The Government of Saskatchewan is joining housing stakeholders and partners across Canada in recognizing National Housing Day.  National Housing Day acknowledges the hundreds of organizations and thousands of people who work toward making sure everyone across Canada has the dignity of a home.

“National Housing Day gives us a chance to shine a spotlight on our partners in the housing sector who are committed to making sure all people have access to safe housing,” Social Services Minister Lori Carr said.  “I thank the organizations and individuals in Saskatchewan for their incredible work to address our province’s housing needs.  Through your dedication and hard work, more people now have a safe place to call home.”

In 2019, the Government of Saskatchewan and the Government of Canada entered into the Canada-Saskatchewan Bilateral Agreement under the National Housing Strategy.  Funding is cost-shared by the federal and provincial governments and is aimed at addressing housing needs in Saskatchewan.  This has resulted in an investment of almost $585 million to protect, renew and expand social and community housing and to support Saskatchewan’s priorities related to housing repair, construction and affordability.

Since 2007, the Government of Saskatchewan has invested $763 million to develop nearly 12,000 housing units, as well as almost $60 million to repair nearly 4,850 homes around the province.
