SPSA Recognizes Emergency Preparedness Week; Test Alert Planned for Saskatchewan

As the province recognizes Emergency Preparedness Week, which runs May 2 to 8, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) is reminding residents to be ready for anything.

During the week, the SPSA is encouraging residents to think about their risks, make a plan and prepare an emergency kit.

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” SPSA President Marlo Pritchard said.  “Emergency Preparedness Week is a great time to think about what can happen to your home, property or family and take action to be prepared.”

As testing is an important part of the emergency management process, the SPSA will be conducting another test of the Alert Ready system at approximately 1:55 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5.

“Regular testing helps to ensure that, in times of an emergency or disaster, urgent and lifesaving warnings can be distributed to the public by emergency management offices across the country,” Pritchard said.

Not all mobile devices will receive the alert, since some devices may not be compatible for receiving such alerts or the device software may not be up to date.  For more information, residents can visit saskalert.ca or contact their telecommunication provider.
