Muriel Kolla

Family was everything to Muriel, which is why it is with extreme sorrow we, her family, announce the untimely passing of our dear sister and auntie, Muriel Mary Kolla on December 11, 2022. We celebrate her caring spirit, her kindness, her capacity to organize anything, her many long lasting friendships, and her generosity of time and attention. Muriel was born on October 10, 1946 in Cudworth, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the family farm and attended St. Ursula’s Academy in Bruno for grades 11 and 12. After graduation, she entered St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Nursing program in Humboldt, Saskatchewan.  She started her nursing career at City Hospital in Saskatoon and, for the first few years, worked in different hospitals in Alberta and BC. For the majority of her career, from 1972 to 2012, Muriel was an operating room nurse at the Rocky View Hospital in Calgary. Muriel retired in 2012 and she moved to Saskatoon. When asked why she was moving back, she would say “My family is here”. She loved her nephews and nieces and is fondly remembered for never forgetting to send a birthday card with a token of her love inside. Muriel was always there to support family and friends, from lending a helping hand, to providing care after surgery, to offering moral support over a vodka and tonic. She will be dearly missed. Muriel was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Dina (Bernadine) Kolla, her brother, Joseph Kolla in infancy, and her nephew, Troy Biletski. As well as aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her siblings and their families: Margaret (Bill) Biletski and son Dean Biletski.
