Fifteen years. Thousands of children. One simple belief: every child deserves the chance to explore the arts and their creativity. This fall, Creative Kids is celebrating 15 years of impact, and the stories behind the numbers reveal a program that has changed lives across the province.
Since its launch in 2010, Creative Kids Saskatchewan has provided access to arts and cultural activities for children and youth who might otherwise be left out due to financial barriers.
A proven impact across Saskatchewan
- Over 17,000 children and youth supported in over 280 communities across Saskatchewan.
- Over $8.6 million distributed in fees for music, dance, art, drama, and cultural activities, thanks to the generosity of donors and the support of Sask Lotteries.
- More than 600 instructors in music, dance, theatre, art, and culture supported across the province.
- Every dollar donated goes directly to help a child, with administrative costs covered by SaskCulture through Sask Lotteries.
“Creative Kids isn’t just about paying for lessons. It’s about opening doors for kids to shine, grow and belong,” says Gloria Walsh, Creative Kids Manager. “When children have the chance to dance, paint, or play music, it shapes their future in powerful ways.”
Families see the difference
For many Saskatchewan families, Creative Kids is more than a grant. It’s hope.
“I don’t think I would be where I am today without the Creative Kids funding that I received,” says Keegan Isaac, a past recipient from the North Battleford area and spokesperson for Creative Kids. “Much of my appreciation for music was engrained in me at an early age.”
A call to celebrate and support
As Creative Kids looks ahead, the need remains strong. Each year, applications outpace available funding. The 15th anniversary is not only a chance to celebrate but also a call for continued community support.
“Every donation is an investment in a child’s future,” says Walsh. “Together, we can ensure no child is left behind because of cost.”
