BURKART, Katherine Ann (neé Jenkins)

October 29, 1959 – November 7, 2023

Katherine Ann Burkart (nee Jenkins), our cherished wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on November 7, 2023 at the age of 64. Katherine will forever be lovingly remembered by her husband of 44 years, Monty Burkart; her daughters, Kari (Lyle) Korczak, Ashley (Ayold) Elgersma and Heather (Gordon) Hamm. Katherine had a deep love for her husband and daughters, but her 8 grandchildren, (Makenna, Anika, Tori, Lucas, Elliot, Hudson, Avery and Renly) held a special place in her heart. Katherine was predeceased by her parents Verna and John Jenkins, her siblings, Bonnie Tolley and Rick Jenkins and her nephew Brad Jenkins.

Born to Verna and John Jenkins on October 29, 1959, Katherine was raised in Humboldt as the second youngest of 8 children. Katherine met the love of her life, Monty in 1975 and were married May 12, 1979 and immediately started a family. Katherine spent the next 13 years raising her girls which she often described as the best moments of her life. In 1992 Katherine decided to pursue her passion of helping others by going to university to get her Psychology and Social Work degree. She worked as a Child, Youth and Family Counselor until her retirement in 2022.

Katherine loved spending time in the kitchen creating delicious meals for her family. More importantly, she enjoyed quality time with her grandchildren, actively listening to them, sharing stories, and providing them with advice to navigate through life. Katherine’s connection with her grandchildren was clearly a special and meaningful one.

Katherine passed away after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Her ability to find moments of joy and laughter amid the tears was a source of comfort and strength to her loved ones. The family deeply appreciates all the wonderful support and care Katherine received at the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital.
