On April 27, 2025 at approximately 12:30 a.m., Carrot River RCMP received reports of an armed male on Red Earth Cree Nation.
Officers immediately responded. Investigation determined an adult male stopped a vehicle and pointed a firearm at the occupants. They drove away. The male then discharged the firearm into the air several times. He attempted to stop a second vehicle, which did not stop. He discharged a firearm at it, striking and damaging it.
No physical injuries were reported.
Carrot River RCMP, with the assistance of Nipawin RCMP and Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services and Remotely Piloted Aircraft System, contained the area.
Officers observed the male discard the firearm into the ditch and enter a residence. The male was arrested without incident at the residence and the firearm was recovered and seized.
As a result of continued investigation, 30-year-old Jeff McKay from Red Earth Cree Nation is charged with:
– one count, discharge a firearm with intent, Section 244, Criminal Code;
– one count, point a firearm, Section 87(1), Criminal Code;
– one count, possess a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code;
– one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code; and
– one count, mischief under $5,000, Section 430(4), Criminal Code.
He is scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on April 28, 2025 (Information #90536379).
