February 03, 1949 – March 01, 2024
Darlene Joan Diederich, 75, of Saskatoon, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, March 1, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Our appreciation to her doctors over the years and The Royal University Hospital ICU for making Darlene’s last days as comfortable as possible. Darlene was born on February 3, 1949, to Phyllis and Bill Dutka on their family farm outside of Yellow Creek and was the youngest of four children. After Darlene graduated from Yellow Creek High School, she married Larry Diederich in 1968 in Yellow Creek and started their family with first son Trent. Darlene and Larry operated a restaurant/hotel in Humboldt and later moved to Saskatoon and built their new home in 1973 and welcomed second son Wesley. Darlene had a long career working in clothing sales at Tall Togg’s and Ricki’s and earned many sales awards. While living in the Saskatoon, the family was also farming in Yellow Creek and still had plenty of time to spend at Wakaw Lake enjoying family, water activities and snowmobiling in the winter. In 1997 she welcomed two grandchildren, Jadon and Dylan whom she dearly loved. In 2002 Darlene retired. Larry and Darlene moved to their home at Wakaw Lake enjoying the lake life and many travel vacations while Larry was still working up North and Darlene was taking care of their lake home. Darlene also volunteered at various events over the years in the town of Wakaw. Darlene had a very joyous personality and always made people feel welcome in her home. She loved to host dinners and there was never a shortage of food or a new beverage to try out. She was extremely talented on interior design and always displayed a beautiful home. Darlene was predeceased by her parents, Phyllis and Bill Dutka, her brother Joe and sister Elizabeth. She is survived by loving husband Larry, sons Trent (Carol), Wesley, grandsons Jadon (Delaney), Dylan (Kyla), sister Mary Shutiak, many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Darlene made an impact on many lives. She will be forever missed. Until we meet again. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at St. Patrick’s Parish (3339 Centennial Drive, Saskatoon). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cancer Foundation in Darlene’s memory. Arrangements entrusted to Derryl Hildebrandt-Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
