June 5, 1959 – March 21, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, Baba, daughter, sister, auntie and friend, Marlene Patricia Ellen Yuzik. Marlene passed away peacefully at the age of 62 on March 21, 2022 at St. Paul’s hospital surrounded by her family. Marlene was born on June 5, 1959 in Wakaw, SK. She grew up on the family farm east of Wakaw. She attended school in Wakaw. After high school she attended Saskatoon Business College where she obtained her secretarial diploma and was employed by Reed Stenhouse in Saskatoon selling insurance. She made several trips home on the weekend and shortly after she met Terry and they began dating. She married the love of her life on July 2, 1988 at St. Julien Ukr. Orthodox Church. Shortly after they started Yuzik Agro in Wakaw selling crop inputs and fuel before taking over the family farm in 1997. In her younger years, she enjoyed the local water ski club, Laker senior hockey games and making many memories with family and friends at the farm and lake. She enjoyed gardening, kayaking, skidooing, travelling, cooking delicious meals, canning from her bountiful garden, embracing her Ukrainian traditions, and a good game of Kaiser. She loved to entertain and spend time with her family. She was a devoted volunteer of the Wakaw Ukrainian Dance Club, St. Julien Ukr. Orthodox Church and many of her children’s activities. She worked at the Wakaw Pharmacy and then moved to the medical clinic in Wakaw and later Rosthern before going full time on the farm with Terry. Her proudest achievement was raising her children and providing them the tools they needed to live a fulfilled life. She had a special place in her heart for her precious grandchildren and we will always cherish the memories she made with them. She poured her heart into everything she did and always made sure everyone was taken care of. Marlene was blessed to enjoy her remaining years at the Wakaw lake in the cabin of her dreams doing all the things she loved. She will always be remembered for her beaming smile and her big infectious laugh. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Ardell from Prince Albert, Dr. Zadi and staff at the Saskatoon Cancer Center, the staff at RUH, Dr. Fenske and staff at the palliative care unit in St. Paul’s hospital and the Stan’s at Wakaw Pharmacy.
