On August 13, 2025 at approximately 3:00 p.m., Prince Albert RCMP were making proactive patrols and conducted a traffic stop in a parking lot in Red Wing, SK. The traffic stop involved a car.
During subsequent investigation, officers located and seized a loaded sawed-off rifle, a knife, and approximately 25 grams of a substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine inside the vehicle. The substance will be sent to Health Canada for further testing. An adult male and an adult female were arrested at the scene.
26-year-old Kolton Ballantyne from Pelican Narrows and 24-year-old Jodi Sanderson from Prince Albert are each charged with:
- one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammunition without license/registration, Section 95(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, Section 96(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a firearm with tampered serial number, Section 108(1)(b), Criminal Code;
- one count, careless use of a firearm, Section 86(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a weapon when knowing possession unauthorized, Section 92(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle, Section 94(1), Criminal Code;
- two counts, weapons possession contrary to order, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code; and
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking, Section 5(2), Criminal Code.
Jodi Sanderson was also arrested on outstanding warrants from Prince Albert and Melfort RCMP.
