1939-2022
On April 21, 2022, we lost a remarkable woman. Shirley Osmond, loving wife, devoted mother, loyal sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many, passed away peacefully in Saskatoon. Shirley leaves
behind two sons, Garth (Deanna) and Grant (Roberta). She is predeceased by her parents, George and Doris Ingram; her brother Kenneth Ingram (Joan); and her second husband Kenneth Osmond. Shirley was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. As a young girl she was a dedicated member of the Moose Jaw Lions Junior Band playing coronet and percussion. As a teenager, just a few years before a vaccine was discovered, Shirley contracted polio which had a profound impact on the rest of her life. She spent time in an ‘iron lung’ followed by extensive rehabilitation. Although the experience left her with severe health challenges, she faced them with courage and determination. She was incredibly resilient. In the early sixties, she married and raised two boys in Moose Jaw. She eventually moved to Saskatoon, getting her degree in Hospital Administration and working at the Royal University Hospital’s TB Control department. She found new happiness when she married Ken Osmond. They loved to travel and spent every summer vacationing in Jasper National Park until his passing. In 2003, Shirley moved to Cudworth, spending her retirement working at the library where she loved recommending books and reading to children. Another love of her life was her prized vintage car, a 1967 Dodge Coronet 500. She drove it with great pride for thirty years and kept it in mint condition. She was amused when men would give her their phone numbers just in case she ever wanted to sell. We thank those who have shared their condolences and remembrances. Shirley would be surprised and delighted by your thoughtful sentiments. A special thanks to Dr. Darcy Marciniuk and the staff at RUH for decades of compassionate care. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no funeral service. As the warmer weather that Shirley so loved arrives, her family will organize a celebration of her life.
