Victoria Laura Huculiak

July, 14, 1941 ~ January, 12, 2024

It is with great sorrow and sympathy that we said goodbye for the last time to our beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother.

On Friday, January 12, 2024 Vicky passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side at Cudworth Nursing Home. Vicky was born in Wakaw on Monday, July 14, 1941 to Frederick and Helen (Hilkewich) Zaleschuk. She grew up with her 5 siblings on their parents farm near Alvena, SK. Vicky met her handsome groom Ernest Huculiak and were married in Cudworth on Saturday, September 7,1963. Vicky and Ernest then settled in Wakaw where they started to raise their family of 5 sons and 1 daughter.

While Ernest worked for CN, Vicky was very busy raising their six children along with all the housework, cooking and gardening. Vicky was an amazing cook, we will always remember the smell of fresh home made buns or the roaster full of pyrohy which she always told us to “leave enough for dad”. Some of our other favorites were Holubsti, Kapusniak and head cheese which dad loved. Vicky’s gardening skills were second to none, she planted a garden at our family home as well as at her parent-in-laws farm in Carpenter, SK. During harvest season she was busy canning, we always had plenty of canned pickles, beets and crabapples. Vicky also helped with cleaning at Millsite Apartments in Wakaw. Then her children grew up and one by one they went to live and have families of their own. We always gathered together with our new families for special occasions where we would once again enjoy mom’s delicious cooking which we could never get enough of. Then there were our weekend visits where we would share all of our crazy stories which always made mom laugh and we would enjoy a bowl or two of her home made chicken macaroni soup with carrots. Vicky and Ernest Then sold their family home in Wakaw and moved to Cudworth where her loving husband Ernest passed away in 2017. Vicky Then moved into Cudworth Nursing Home where she was well cared for. My sister Shirley who I called “Mom’s Gaurdian Angel ” was always at her side taking mom into the city for her medical appointments, where they would always stop at her favorite KFC or Tim Hortons and Shirley would always share a picture of mom enjoying a snack, mom always had a bright smile on her face that melted our hearts. We will miss our visits with mom, her absence will leave a great void in our lives but, she is finally at rest with her loving husband Ernest.

Vicky will be lovingly remembered by her children; Terry (Anastasia), Garry (Tammie), Clarence, Ken (Terry-Lynn), David (Leah) and Shirley (Scott); her grandchildren; Candice, Zachary, Christopher, Jessica (James), Danielle, Tyler (Laura), Trent (Nikita), Randall (Kendra), Levi, Emily (Jesse), Olivia and Lane; her great grandchildren; Annie, William, Kennedy, Emerson, Katie and Avery; her siblings; Rosie (Sherbaniuk), Elmer (Stella) Zaleschuk, Ervin (Elaine) Zaleschuk, Adeline (John) Sherman and John Zaleschuk.

Vicky was predeceased by her parents; Frederick and Helen(Hilkewich)Zaleschuk, her husband Ernest Huculiak in 2017, her parents-in-law William and Emily(Sawitsky)Huculiak, her grandson Corey Huculiak and her brother-in-lwa Joseph Sherbaniuk.
