Balon , Dennis Lawrence

Balon, Dennis – It is with great sadness that the family of Dennis announce his passing on March 6, 2019 at Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon after a brief illness. Dennis was the third child born to Stephen and Ann Balon of Bonne Madone. He took his schooling at Bonne Madone and upon completing Grade 8 he remained on the farm to assist his Dad with farming.  Farming was his passion but he also took time to help neighbours building houses, and lending a hand wherever possible. On October 13, 1973  Dennis married the love of his life, Patricia Victor of St. Benedict and they began their married life on the family farm. To this union was born two wonderful children, Corey and Megan whom he adored.  He took great pride in their accomplishments in Ukrainian Dance, hockey and ringette. When his two grandsons arrived he glowed as he could teach them things on the farm, play hockey with them, take  them for quad rides and just enjoy having them near. His family was the most important  part of his life. Dennis loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He often brought in a string of pickerel to feast on that day and when hunting season rolled around he was out scouting to find where the big buck was so he, Corey and the crew could bring home the game. Every summer was spent at the cabin at Wakaw Lake and the door was always open to everyone who stopped by. We was a friend to all. He loved to sit on the front deck with a drink and eating sunflower seeds while listening to Saturday Night Old Tyme Dance Party. He enjoyed visiting with his second family, the beach residents as there was always something to discuss. He often commented how fortunate he was to have such great friends. Dennis is survived by his wife of 45 years Pat, son Corey (Lindee Richards) and Megan (Ryan) Gieselman and two treasured grandsons Cameron and Connor Gieselman; brother Alfred Balon of Prince Albert, SK; his sisters Joyce Toth of Wakaw, SK and Joanne (Bob) Kolendreski of Saskatoon, SK; his sisters-in-law Madeline Oldham of Porters Lake, NS and Joanne (Nick) Shewchuk of St. Benedict; his brother-in-law Albert Martin of Nipawin, SK; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dennis was predeceased by his parents Stephen and Ann Balon; his father and mother-in-law Nick and Helen Victor; his brothers-in-law Joe Toth and Eamonn Oldham; and his sisters-in-law Ethel Balon and Darlene Martin. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Wakaw on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Matthew Nguyen as celebrant. Interment of the Urn followed at the Bonne Madone Cemetery. Donations in memory of Dennis may be directed to the Stars Ambulance or to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Marc Blondeau of Kushneryk Funeral Service, Wakaw, SK, 306-233-4403.
