It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our sweet mother on June 14, 2019 at the Rosthern Hospital at the age of 86. She was the wife to Paul, mother to Darrell (Clara), Randy, and Naomi, grandma to Ian (Teryn) and Amanda, great-grandmother to Grayson and Logan and sister to Miro (Suvan), Alice McKee and Esther Caprino. There are nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends too numerous to mention. Mom was predeceased by her parents Alex and Lena Kowalenko, parents-in-law James and Dora Sarchuk, siblings Myroslav (in infancy), Ann, Mary Shinkaruk, and Victoria Johnston, brothers-in-law Bill Shinkaruk, Lorne Jonston, Serge Caprino, and Burleigh McKee, and a nephew Les Kowalenko. Mom wa the seventh of eight children born to Alex and Lena Kowalenko on April 6, 1933. She was raised in a loving Christian home west of Wakaw. Mom attended Minatinas and Wakaw schools graduating in 1952. She moved to Saskatoon with her sister Esther, took a secretarial course and worked there before she married Dad on June 18, 1955. They spent a few more years in Saskatoon before moving back to Wakaw to farm. Mom excelled at all aspects of homemaking: cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, doing whatever was needed to make our home and the farm run smoothly. Mom’s focus was on her family and her worship of her God, Jehovah; dedicating her life to him at a young age. Mom was in constant study of the Bible, finding hope and comfort in his promise of a paradise earth and delving deep in study of Bible history and prophecy. Mom spent every chance she had to share the Bible message, even as her health began to fail; her heart was for the preaching work. As Mom’s health began to decline, she never complained and never lost her sweet nature, just giving a little smile when someone asked how she was. She was a pleasure to care for and we find peace knowing she is in the safest place possible, resting in Jehovah’s memory, waiting for the day he will call her name and she will answer and her life will be restored to perfect health. (Job 14:14, 15) There will be a private service at the Sokol Cemetery of Jehovah’s Witnesses at a later date.
